CFTRI Entrance exam : Some Frequently Asked Questions

Log in to to practice for CFTRI  Online Entrance Exam.

Hi Friends,

During last few years, I found students asking few questions regarding CFTRI entrance exam. There are same questions in every one's mind but asked at different forms.

I have tried to compile them and answer them as per my knowledge. These are entirely my opinion and should be taken as only guidance.

Does CFTRI give MSc or MTech degree

CFTRI provides only 2 year MSc degree program in Food Technology

What is the number of seats and is it true that there is one seat for one state?
There are 25 seats for MSc Food Tech course in CFTRI.
Yes, there is one seat for one state, but, due to limited seats it doesn’t translates into one seat for one state. There are 28 states and 7 union territories. So, 25 seats has to be distributed into 35 claims. Moreover, there are some reservations for Military personnel’s, Mysore University and few other. So, practically there are 18-19 seats available.

Is graduation marks also important for getting into CFTRI?
Yes, graduation marks important for getting into CFTRI. It is 50 – 50 weightage to graduation marks and entrance exam marks.
Another question asked is “what is the minimum mark in graduation required to get into CFTRI”. Answer is that, there is no definite number which one should have to get into CFTRI. It depends on the state you are representing and who are your competitors. In one batch there may be students with 70% marks in graduation to 95% marks in graduation.

Is it true that one should have studied Maths in XII for getting into CFTRI?
No, it is NOT True. If you have studied Maths and Statistics in graduation, then also you are eligible for CFTRI.

Could I get the previous year’s entrance exam question?
The question papers of CFTRI entrance exam are not allowed to be taken out of the examination hall.

But, few students have compiled the question based on their memory just after writing exam. I had also done it in 2005 with the help of my friends. These questions are published in the book –OBJECTIVE FOOD SCIENCE (for detail CLICK).

Which topic should I focus and which book should I consult for CFTRI entrance exam?
One should focus on each and every subjects mentioned in syllabus. But, one should not go into depth of each of them. Just basics would suffice. For Maths, Biology, Chemistry and Physics, one can refer to NCERT (XI and XII std). If you will go through the previous year questions, you can find that questions are very basic. One set of supplement has been provided in OBJECTIVE FOOD SCIENCE book exclusively for CFTRI exam.

Hi Priyanka,

Web site says

Bachelor Degree in Science with Chemistry/Biochemistry as one of the subjects or Agriculture / Engineering / Technology. Mathematics as one of the subjects in Plus 2 or Pre-University or at Degree level is compulsory for admission."

But, if you are BSc (Ag) with stats in ur course, you are eligible... as every batch have 6-8 people from agri and horti background
