Dear Friends,

Have a doubt that how does worms are getting generated inside the Sealed Atta pouches ?

How it is possible when we are using entoleter in Atta plant.

Else whether we can monitor/check the entoleter efficiency.

What are the factors that helps in generating the worm inside the Atta pouches?

Need your valuable suggestion.

Hi Manoj,

As you have mentioned that atta was passed through entoleter before packing but still worm is present.Function of entoleter is throw material at very speed against the wall so that impact kills insects or their eggs.

One of the possibility is that the process line after entoleter and packing machine might have developed worm cocoons at dead spaces which got passed to a sealed pack and developed thereafter.

Dear Saran,

Thanks a lot for your views.

See after entoleter till packing m/c all the conveyors are totally closed and there is no Atta exposure to the atmosphere .

Regularly these conveyors been cleaned but still we are getting worms in Atta.

How to prevent this?

Manoj Arumugam

Cleaning is OK, but are we doing fumigation on regular intervals??

See, Cleaning and isolation from atmosphere can not prevent infestation, pest growth is accelerated in dark and moist places.Atta is a best suited environment for such growths, it is 10-12% moist, sandy, full of carbohydrates.

Atta conveyors have lots of dead spaces where we cant reach, nor our cleaning tools or compressed air. Only way to penetrate these spaces is fumigation with gasses. Try doing fumigation with Methyl Bromide (24hrs)/Aluminium Phosphide(120hrs) minimum once in a months to prevent such infestation.
